2020 Toyota Hilux Diesel and 4X4

There has been a lot of talk about the legendary pickup truck in the past several months. Experts speculated about a variety of possible changes. Some of them were suggesting arrival to North America but the fact is that this definitely won’t happen. Also, some reports suggest another visual update, though we are still waiting for the official confirmation. On the other side, the thing that seems pretty sure is that the 2020 Toyota Hilux Diesel will carry on in the same way, though we should see a couple of modifications that would eventually improve fuel economy for a bit.

In any case, the overall design will definitely remain pretty much the same and the upcoming model will carry on in the market where it already presents for a long time. Expect to see it sometime late in the year.

2020 Toyota Hilux Diesel Specs

The thing with this truck is that it can be found in pretty much every part of the world, except North America. Therefore, it comes with numerous engines in the offer. However, two diesel units are common in most markets. A smaller one is a familiar 2.4-liter turbodiesel, which delivers around 110 kW (150hp) and 400 Nm (300 lb-ft) of torque. Another familiar unit is in the offer in many countries of the world, including Australia. It is a well-known 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine, which delivers 132 kW (177hp) and 450 Nm (330 lb-ft) of torque. Both engines will come with one big novelty for the next year.

It is a new diesel particulate filter (DPF), which allows you to check particulate buildup and initiate a burn off when required or whenever you want. The same feature has been added to the Land Cruiser Prado and will be installed in the upcoming Fortuner as well.

Both diesel engines come with an automatic transmission, which sends power to rear wheels in base models. The 2020 Toyota Hilux 4×4 will continue as an option. Models with a smaller 2.4-liter engine are also available with a manual gearbox.

Are there any other changes to come?

As we already mentioned, some reports also suggest visual updates for the 2020 Toyota Hilux Diesel. Still, keep in mind that the current generation, although introduced in 2015, has been already updated two years ago. This clearly indicates that, even if changes arrive, we probably won’t see anything radical. The first update included changes on the grille when we saw a new shape and mesh pattern.

So, we may presume that the eventual another update would include some other areas, such as bumpers and headlights, in a direction that would bring it even closer to the North American Tacoma. As we already mentioned, do not expect to see anything more significant.

Interior

On the inside, things will remain pretty much the same. The Hilux doesn’t look fancy. It comes in an old-school truck manner, which means lack of fine soft-touch materials. The dashboard and the rest of the cabin are mostly feature hard plastics, which may not be the most attractive choice but definitely guarantees excellent durability and decades of use. For the possible update, we would probably see novelties in terms of new color schemes but count on a couple of novelties in terms of tech features as well. Some reports suggest even a new infotainment system, mount on a bigger touchscreen. Still, we believe that the company will leave this for a complete overhaul.
